Some places you visit because they’re convenient and some places you return to because they simply feel right.

Lilla Spännefalla is one of those places for us.

Not polished or overly styled, just honest, local and deeply connected to the land. The kind of place where you immediately sense that care and quality come before everything else.

About a 30-minute drive from Solskenet cabin, making it the perfect stop before heading back for an evening of cooking and slow living.

The journey is part of the experience

Even getting there feels like a gift.

The road takes you along a beautiful winding route through the Swedish countryside—moving between stretches of forest and open fields, gently rolling up and down over hills. It’s the kind of drive where you automatically slow down, simply because you don’t want to miss a thing.

And then you arrive.

A long, charming driveway lined with small trees welcomes you onto the farm. On the left, you’ll find a small parking area, with those lovely old-fashioned metal garden sets placed outside—as if inviting you to sit down and stay a while.

It sets the tone immediately.

A Small shop full of discoveries

Inside, you’ll find a small, local farm shop, but one that offers so much more than just meat. Of course, the meat is the heart of the place. Local, carefully selected, and full of flavor. The kind of quality that makes grilling at Solskenet feel like a real experience rather than just dinner.

What makes it even more special is the story behind the animals. At Lilla Spännefalla, they work with their own herds. Their Limousin cattle were carefully selected for calm character and strong health. Their Linderöd pigs, a traditional Swedish breed, have been part of the farm for many years. And what once started with just a few sheep has grown into a flock grazing the land naturally.

And then there is the game. They source wild meat from carefully selected local hunting teams in the surrounding areas of Tibro, Hjo, Karlsborg and Skövde. Hunting in Sweden follows strict regulations and deep-rooted traditions, with great respect for both the animal and nature. You can feel that this isn’t done carelessly, it’s done with attention, responsibility and intention. And you taste that. It’s pure, rich and honest.

It’s no surprise that several of their products have even received awards. Not in a loud or boastful way, but quietly confirming what you already notice yourself: this is quality you can trust.

But as you look around, you’ll discover all kinds of small treasures. Shelves filled with herbs and sauces. Jars of beautiful honey, my personal favorite being the chai honey, while the children always go straight for the blueberry honey (blåbärshonung). Little details that make you want to take something home, not just for taste, but for the memory.  You’ll also find handcrafted items like wool felt artworks and soft sheepskins, adding to that feeling of authenticity and connection to the land.

It’s not just a shop. It’s a place to wander, to look, to enjoy.

a personal touch

Behind the counter, you’ll meet someone who completes the experience. Friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what he offers.

He prefers speaking German, but English works just fine too—and somehow, that only adds to the charm. It’s relaxed, uncomplicated, and real.

You’re not just buying something here. You’re stepping into a local story.

back to solskenet

There’s something special about driving back from the countryside with a bag full of good food, knowing exactly where it came from or at least knowing it was handled with care every step of the way.

Back at Solskenet cabin, the fire slowly warms up, the forest settles into the evening and everything softens. Time to enjoy your meal with a crackling fire.

Good food. Fresh air. Time together.

Why it's worth it

Lilla Spännefalla isn’t just a place to buy meat. It’s an experience from the drive to the farm, to the story behind the animals, to the quiet confirmation of quality you taste on your plate.

If you’re staying at Solskenet, this is one of those places you’ll be glad you discovered.

Because sometimes, the simplest moments are the ones you remember most.
